Goodbye Andrew!
We had an excellent time at Noztock, our first time playing in the UK! We met awesome horn bands, helpful industry folk, and played a couple of great sets. Check out some choice pics below and if you'd like to see more pics from our adventures, check out our Instagram.
Now you may notice that Andrew is lacking in our pics. Well, sad to say, our beloved McCarthy is heading to Toronto to further his musical education. Playing with him over these past 4 years has been an incredible journey and we could not have asked for a more inspiring drummer. We will miss you bud!

Tonight (Friday August 18thwe are having a goodbye show for Andrew McCarthy, as well as Adam Martin, who fronts my other group, Hear/Say. The show is at The Ship, starts 1045 and will have sets from Big Space, Ouroboros, and Hearsay. $12 before 12 (midnight), $15 afterward. Facebook event here.
So, we've played shows with Big Space before, and if you've ever heard them you know they have a great drummer - Ash Chalmers. After much consideration, we decided to ask Ash to come on as the new drummer for Ouroboros. He's got big shoes to fill, but after an intense weekend in the UK, we think he's going to fit right in. Welcome to the band, Ash! Here's a little bit about Ash:
Percussionist Ashley Chalmers, currently based out of St. John’s Newfoundland, was born in Montreal, lived in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and British Coumbia, and has left of trail of diverse sounds in his wake.
Graduating from St. Francis Xavier’s Jazz program with a B. Mus(honours), with small stints at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and Humber College in Toronto, Ashley went on to teach at the Canadian Conservatory of Music for 2 years, before embarking on tours that led him through Asia, Europe, and North America, opening for the likes Tegan and Sara, K-Os, Classified, and Joel Plaskett among others.
Ashley has been heard playing a variety of music: from contemporary improv with the Grammy wining Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, to traditional Acadian music with gold selling Blou, to his own 2 time ECMA nominated Rap group The Chronicles.
Ashley has recently joined the St. John’s sax and drum band, Ouroboros , and is very excited to explore this new palette of sounds!
You can hear Ash play with us later today at around 1230pm at Atlantic Place for the City of St. John's Lunchtime Concert Series, which is all ages and free!
